Dear body – why won’t you listen…..

Dear body…..

Why won’t you listen?

I eat healthily all week so why do you punish me when I clear the cupboards at the weekend?

I restrict my calories monday to Friday so why does the Chinese takeaway go straight to my hips on Saturday?

I eat salad all week for lunch and so why do you punish me with sugar cravings all night, every night??

I deprive myself of the cakes and sweets others eat, so why do you make me binge on these things in secret?

I want to be slim, why can’t you do what I need you to do? Why can’t you cooperate? I’m doing all these things to make you slim, why why why?

Help me!

So why does it happen?

Reason 1: diets don’t work!

Depriving yourself Monday to Friday will inevitably only lead to overeating or binge eating all weekend, your body cannot perform on low low calories and zero carbs so this just results in crazy eating behaviours and a sense of shame or failure after

Reason 2: you need to eat!

We don’t need cigarettes or alcohol to survive, we do need food. Shake diets, starvation, fasting and detoxes might seem great but only result in excessive hunger and overeating, along with losing our sense of satisfaction from food. Each diet also becomes more severe and crazy to get the same result…. Welcome to yoyo dieting

Reason 3: your blood sugar levels will hate you – so will your mind!

Eating well planned meals which are nutritious and contain ️variety means you don’t get bored, you feel satisfied and you don’t reach for the chocolate biscuits mid afternoon. Your blood sugar levels stay stable, your energy levels stay stable and you remain happier!

So what is the answer?

For my clients, removing that internal book of crazy eating can be liberating (once they get over the fact this is NOT a diet and they CAN eat). The ability to eat regular meals, remain satisfied and be happy can be a bizarre entity to enter but when there are regular results, consistency and no extremes how can you feel bad?

To be able to go for a work meal is a blessing, you just can’t eat three different parts, you’ll feel full and overeating leads to feelings of nausea so you know you have to stop.

Food doesn’t have to be the enemy, so why treat it like one? Every hour you spend telling yourself what you ‘can’t eat’ just leads to overeating it later. Starving yourself and skipping meals only leads to bingeing later in the day and deprivation will inevitably lead to arguments with family, partners and friends…. So tell me honestly, are these behaviours making you happy?

Food COULD just be food.

Eating COULD just be something you do.

So why drive yourself nuts?
